Kratom shares its name with traditional field shelters used by farmers as refuge from the intense tropical sun during their hard work.

Kratoms are small, often very picturesque shelters, roughly made of bamboo or wood, with stairs and a raised floor, which is supposed to protect its users mainly from snakes and other dangerous animals.
These shelters complete the rural landscape of the whole of Southeast Asia, to which they inextricably belong.
It is a place where peasants go to strengthen themselves for the next demanding work in harsh weather conditions, even with food and drink, rest, or kratom.
It is very likely that the kratom plant, which is popular around the world today, got its name from these symbols of the Thai landscape.
